GLOBAL TRANSPARENCY INDEX PLACES CANADA AT NUMBER ONE
Canada ranks first amongst 82 countries in terms of transparency in the
real estate industry, ahead of the United States and Australia, and up
from fourth in 2006, according to the GLOBAL REAL ESTATE TRANSPARENCY
INDEX. The index was released by U.S.-based industry services firm JONES
LANG LASALLE and its subsidiary, LASALLE INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT. The last
survey was published in 2006. The study placed countries into five
categories of transparency - high, transparent, semi, low and opaque -
based on factors including lack of corruption, respect for personal
property rights, legal and regulatory environment, and market
fundamentals. Rounding out the list of countries with high transparency
levels are New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France,
Sweden and Belgium. |
